A perennial tropical plant of the bromeliad family, it grows naturally in Costa Rica.
The plant produces a dense tuft of leaves followed by an erect stem on which green and yellow flowers bloom.
In temperate climates, it can be grown in pots outdoors during the hottest periods but should be brought indoors when the outdoor temperature drops below 10°C for long periods.
Outdoors, the plant can reach a height of 1 meter including inflorescence, indoors it will reach a height of 50 centimeters.
