The needles are a bright bluish green or yellow-green, they are arranged in pairs and remain on the tree for about 3 years. The bark is reddish-brown in color and flakes off in its upper part as it ages.

Grow in fertile, well-drained soil. Keep the soil rather dry, add sand for drainage. The tree can tolerate drought. Grow partially in the shade.

The tree does not like extreme heat, provide shade in the afternoon. Superb contrast between the foliage and the bark. Magnificent both indoor and outdoor bonsai.
